So just the other day I was playing around in the kitchen with some new lotion recipes and smells when some ninja bug bit the crud out of me on my hand. I say ninja, because I didn't even see it...in fact, I thought it was an allergic reaction to a new ingredient or one of my new essential oils, but then I realized I had put the lotion on my face and my face was fine. As I clawed a hole into my skin I quickly realized some evildoer with giant eyes and wings did this. Grrr.
Then a light bulb went off over my head...figuratively of course.
One of my new essential oils was Frankincense and I read it was great with wound healing. I took a chance and dabbed it on straight from the bottle. I wish I had thought to take a picture (sorry guys, still learning)....within 15/20 minutes the intense itching was gone and the redness was significantly lessened! WOW.
The wise men knew what they were doing...
Once that whole dramatic scene was over and I canned up the new lotions and cleaned my mess up, I did more investigation as to what this miracle oil can do. And it truly is a miracle oil. Frankincense has so many uses, it is literally one of the most beneficial essential oils in the world.
"Frankincense Oil is extracted from the gum or resin from Frankincense or Olibanum trees, whose scientific name is Boswellia Carteri. The main components of this essential oil are Alpha Pinene, Actanol, Bornyl Acetate, Linalool, Octyl Acetate, Incensole and Incensyl Acetate. Frankincense has been a popular ingredient in cosmetics and incense burners for centuries. It has even been found in the remains of ancient Egyptian and Anglo-Saxon civilizations. Furthermore, It is closely associated with religious traditions and rites, particularly in the Christian tradition." (Cited from Organic Facts)
-Can be used for nasal and chest congestion
-Pain relief from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
-Heal internal and external wounds by killing germs
-A number of uses for oral health, such as preventing cavities, gum disease, and bad breath
-Astrigent internally and externally
-Great for symptoms of PMS and post menopause
-Removes & prevents the buildup of gas in the intestines, helps with stomachaches, indegestion, etc.
-Safe diuretic
-Anti-aging skin properties
-Wound healing
-Builds up immune system
And I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but you get the idea. I mean WOW again! I recently made a facial moisturizer and put in there. I was just starting THAT time of the month(sorry, I know it TMI) and I was starting to break out....and this almost never happens to me anymore, its very rare. And within the day they were signficantly less red and painful and in a couple days they were completely gone!
If you are getting into making your own products of your own, I urge you to research this essential oil, you can put it into so many different products. AND if you have a therapeutic grade oil and it says it can be ingested, you can put a few drops into tea or water and get the benefits that way! Amazingly enough, there no reported severe side effects(BONUS!) but there some of the small nagging ones such as nausea, headache, diarrhea, etc; so use caution as with anything and test it out in small amounts first.
Have you tried Frankincense already? Have great results? Let me know!
Have a great week everyone!
