Here's the recipe for the Honey Wheat Bread, just click the link! Here's how mine came out!
PS - its a little time consuming the first time, but well worth it!
The next step in my quest to homesteading and becoming self reliant is making my own bread and butter of course! I will post the butter later but I had to had to get this bread up here! FYI, be kind, it was my first time....so it doesn't look very pretty, but it sure does taste yummy! And well, that's all I care about! ha!

So I had a hankering for pancakes this morning but I wasn't really feeling a big breakfast production. Nor was I wanting to dip into the family Krusteaz mix(no offense!) I knew I had an easy, relatively healthy pancake recipe somewhere. And there, on one of my bazillion Pinterest boards, it was...3 ingredient pancakes! Score! This is from Recipe by Photo - http://www.recipebyphoto.com/3-ingredient-pancakes/. Super easy to make and I dressed it up for a naughty breakfast treat because I had some cream cheese frosting I needed to get rid of....a single girls' gotta do what a single girls' gotta do. You will need: *2 eggs *1 ripe banana *Cinnamon(optional) *Vanilla extract(optional) **Chef's note: original recipe did not have vanilla extract, only optional cinnamon. Something about cinnamon, vanilla and bananas just sounded super yummy! Also, she does warn to take care when flipping because they are a bit flimsy, I found this to be true, but if you take her advice and make smaller ones it's a lot easier. i just broke up the banana and smashed it the best I can with a fork. I don't think it's super noticeable after they are cooked if there's little pieces in the batter. So I turned the stove on medium heat and lightly buttered the skillet. This is the size I made them. A little frosting melted and maple syrup over warm pancakes and voila! An easy, quick breakfast treat! As I've tried to start switching over to all natural products I make at home, one of the easiest and by far the most useful is the all purpose cleaner I made. Once again, I found this on Pintrest.....don't judge me.
Super simple to make...and I'm kind of embarrassed because this will be a bit of a puny post because of it, haha. I'm also really embarrassed because apparently I didn't save the pin I got the recipe from. If this is your post, let me know and I will give you credit! Here we go: For a 32OZ bottle: - 2 T Castille soap of choice, I used Baby Mild - 10-20 drops of Tree Oil (Melaleuca essential oil) - Fill the rest of the bottle with water I only had a 16OZ bottle so I cut it half and it still works amazing. How do I know this?? I knocked a bottle of wine onto my wood and tiled floor and not only is there no stain, there is no smell! #Winning hahaha Happy cleaning friends! -SFH So just the other day I was playing around in the kitchen with some new lotion recipes and smells when some ninja bug bit the crud out of me on my hand. I say ninja, because I didn't even see it...in fact, I thought it was an allergic reaction to a new ingredient or one of my new essential oils, but then I realized I had put the lotion on my face and my face was fine. As I clawed a hole into my skin I quickly realized some evildoer with giant eyes and wings did this. Grrr. Then a light bulb went off over my head...figuratively of course. One of my new essential oils was Frankincense and I read it was great with wound healing. I took a chance and dabbed it on straight from the bottle. I wish I had thought to take a picture (sorry guys, still learning)....within 15/20 minutes the intense itching was gone and the redness was significantly lessened! WOW. The wise men knew what they were doing... Once that whole dramatic scene was over and I canned up the new lotions and cleaned my mess up, I did more investigation as to what this miracle oil can do. And it truly is a miracle oil. Frankincense has so many uses, it is literally one of the most beneficial essential oils in the world. "Frankincense Oil is extracted from the gum or resin from Frankincense or Olibanum trees, whose scientific name is Boswellia Carteri. The main components of this essential oil are Alpha Pinene, Actanol, Bornyl Acetate, Linalool, Octyl Acetate, Incensole and Incensyl Acetate. Frankincense has been a popular ingredient in cosmetics and incense burners for centuries. It has even been found in the remains of ancient Egyptian and Anglo-Saxon civilizations. Furthermore, It is closely associated with religious traditions and rites, particularly in the Christian tradition." (Cited from Organic Facts) -Can be used for nasal and chest congestion -Pain relief from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis -Heal internal and external wounds by killing germs -A number of uses for oral health, such as preventing cavities, gum disease, and bad breath -Astrigent internally and externally -Great for symptoms of PMS and post menopause -Removes & prevents the buildup of gas in the intestines, helps with stomachaches, indegestion, etc. -Safe diuretic -Anti-aging skin properties -Wound healing -Builds up immune system And I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but you get the idea. I mean WOW again! I recently made a facial moisturizer and put in there. I was just starting THAT time of the month(sorry, I know it TMI) and I was starting to break out....and this almost never happens to me anymore, its very rare. And within the day they were signficantly less red and painful and in a couple days they were completely gone! If you are getting into making your own products of your own, I urge you to research this essential oil, you can put it into so many different products. AND if you have a therapeutic grade oil and it says it can be ingested, you can put a few drops into tea or water and get the benefits that way! Amazingly enough, there no reported severe side effects(BONUS!) but there some of the small nagging ones such as nausea, headache, diarrhea, etc; so use caution as with anything and test it out in small amounts first. Have you tried Frankincense already? Have great results? Let me know! Have a great week everyone! -SFH So I have been going coconut oil crazy for the last 2 weeks now. I mean....there are no words. I'm glad I bought 2 big tubs of this stuff, cause at the rate I'm going I'll be out before Halloween! That would be scary. See what I did there? Ok, lets get on with it... You may or may not know that there are a million and one ways to use coconut oil, and I'm saying that pretty literally....its kind of insane. I've used in cooking in the past, put it on my toast instead of butter, even tried it as a leave in conditioner(which failed miserably), but I hadn't tried it as a skin moisturizer oddly enough. So I, like many others, have recently discovered the value in making my own products. So far my lotion and shampoo are amazing....and if I may go out on a limb, working better than the store bought stuff. TAKE THAT nasty cancer causing chemicals. This particular lotion I found on Pintrest from Freebie Finding Mom and originally I didn't have shea butter but I had everything else, so I decided to give it a whirl! I have played around with the recipe to suit my needs and....I can't even explain how amazing it is. I use it on my face, my body, and a friend who is testing it out used it as a shaving lotion in a pinch wants to buy this by the barrels! haha So, without further ado, here is the recipe! FYI, I recently had my first shipment of Shea butter come in and I will play around with that and post when I make something that works! You will need: Coconut oil (I use organic refined) A carrier oil, I used Apricot Kernel oil a bowl Electric mixer (I guess you don't NEED this but it makes the whipping a heck of a lot easier!) Optional: -Essential oils of your choice. I love the way the Jasmine and Sweet Orange work with this! -Coconut milk - Recently I added this thinking I had forgotten to write it down that I used it, then realized I hadn't. I actually like the way it came out a little better. I feel like its easier to grab, if that makes sense. But the original recipe is still divine. Recipe: 3/4 cup Coconut oil 1 Tablespoon of carrier oil of your choice 1 Tablespoon of coconut milk First Step: Go ahead and put your coconut oil, carrier oil, and coconut milk(if you're going to use it) into a bowl. You can melt it down if you want, but you'll have to let it cool and harden up a little if you're going to use an electric mixer. *If you melted down the oils cause you're whipping by hand, skip to the third step. Second Step: Bust out you're electric mixer, and start whipping it up. I start on the low setting for a minute or so, then kick it up to high for about 2 or 3 minutes. It should look about like this, smooth and glassy. Third Step: Now I put it in the fridge to let it harden up a little, roughly 10 minutes. Basically, if you test it, it should feel hard, but your finger can break the surface easily. I'll be honest, I'm not sure why this makes a difference, as I'm just delving into this world, but it makes a big difference in the consistency. Fourth Step: After its set, pull it out of the fridge and get your electric mixer ready again. *Here's a little tip: I just eject the mixers and let them sit in the bowl, that way I don't lose any mixture to the paper towel, and most importantly, not clean up a mess.* I follow the same pattern once I start mixing again, low setting, then high setting. This is where it starts whipping up so pretty! Once it starts looking light and fluffy, I'll stop to add my essential oils. I'll beat this up maybe another couple minutes or so.
But thats it, YOU'RE DONE! Spoon it into some pretty containers...give them as gifts! But be sure to keep one for yourself as a reward! (wink, wink) Would love to hear how this turned out everyone! Like I mention earlier, I will play around with the recipe adding the shea butter and post when I get something I like! Happy creating friends! -SFH Hello friends!
I mentioned in the previous post about my new journey! In light of this, I'm going a slightly different direction than before. Plenty of workout and healthy living tips but I'm also going to share recipes of beauty and household items I'm making now! I mean, have you seen all the crud in everything we use?? All these preservatives because we want things to last longer than they are supposed to?? Its gotten terrible! My mother(because she is amazing, as always) has donated her essential oils kit so I can thriftily start this venture! Thats also something I'll be blogging about too! On a budget and want to start making your own products? ME TOO! I'll share where I buy stuff to get the best prices, substitutes, etc. I'll post about my new fave lotion that I made this week! A friend I gave a sample to said she used it as a shaving lotion in a pinch and it was AH-MAZING! And it smells oh so GOOD! I'm due to make a new batch so I will document it when I make it. Seems silly to take pics of the one I already have, haha I also like to find ways to substitute some of the nasty stuff we put in yummy yummy desserts. Cause lets face it folks, its hard to give up the treats....am I right?? The way I like to make my treats will allow you to have just one more....and I don't know about you, but who can have just one(insert macauly culkin after shave face). Stay tuned friends....I'm super excited about whats it store with this blog! Happy Tuesday! -SFH Hello everyone!
