I’m wondering if it’s not just that people want quick results but also that they don’t what purpose carbohydrates serve. They’ve been told over and over that that is what causes people to get fat that really don’t know why that is. So there are 6 nutrients that your body depends on: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. I can write articles on the other ones if people request it, but this is specifically about carbs. Most people know what the others do for the body, except maybe fats(next article maybe??) but carbs have gotten such a bad rap I really would like to set the record straight.
Glucose is an essential nutrient for the body, the brain MUST have this to fuel it. The body can breakdown carbohydrates and fats to get glucose. So this right here should give you an idea that its super important, YOUR BRAIN NEEDS IT. Getting off track here….Carbohydrates provide long term energy for the body. The problem comes when the only people are eating are lots of carbs and their activity levels don’t support the amount of carbs they are taking in. So for the people that are “starting” their fitness journey to shed some pounds either in general or before they start working out, it works because their activity level supports this. When and if they do start exercising, is when it becomes hard to sustain…probably when they give up because its like starving yourself….because you are. If you can’t even make it through the first week, your metabolism is higher and you’ll never be able to maintain it, eat your carbs folks.
There are very few people that can’t trust their bodies to tell them when to eat and what to eat. Your body has been doing this for thousands of years…trust that it knows what it needs. There is a ton of info on the net, I like Pintrest, that tells you what you’re cravings mean. If you really want to do this right, do the research! Its not hard, there is a wealth of information out there! But your body needs glucose in some way, whether you do a high carb, low fat diet; or a low carb, high fat diet; give it something it something….just don’t do both low! You’re just setting yourself up for failure.
Your body is an engine and food is the fuel. Sometimes it helps people to think it of that way. And here’s a little piece of advice when it comes to deciding what to eat when…this was mind blowing to me, and made it so easy. Think about what you’re going to be doing for the next 3 hours. You’ve done your research now, right(wink, wink) Think about what you’ll be doing the next few hours and plan your meals around that. Simple as that.
Hope this helped shed a little bit of light on the carb dilemma. Please feel free comment with any questions.
Have a great weekend,
